Robert Melee’s multi-media practice finds its psychological analogues in the blurring of beauty and grotesquerie, nostalgia and critique. In so doing, Melee’s work suggests an underground or alternative narrative of how and why visual ideas develop; because Melee’s language draws in such a large part from the private realm of domestic environments, his work elicits emotional responses that are both uncannily familiar and disarmingly strange.

Melee was born in New Jersey and he lives and works in New York, NY. His exhibitions include White Cube and Sutton Lane, London; The Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston, TX; The Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.; The Milwaukee Art Museum; City Hall Park, NY; P.S.1, NY; New Museum of Contemporary Art, NY; Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, CT; The Sculpture Center, NY; Portugal Biennial, Lisbon; The Contemporary Arts Museum Houston; The Kitchen, NY, among many others. His work has appeared numerous times in publications internationally including Sculpture Magazine, The New York Times, Artforum, Modern Painters, Flash Art, The Village Voice, among others.

Born 1966; Lives and works in New Jersey and New York City.
