September 9, 2006 - October 31, 2006

David Castillo Gallery is pleased to present the first Miami solo exhibition of Beth Reisman. The artist has shown with the gallery at Scope New York & in the group exhibition Searching for Love & Fire.

Reisman received a B.F.A. from Tyler School of Art, Philadelphia and an M.F.A. from the Art Institute of Chicago.  She has had solo exhibitions at Deven Golden Fine Art in New York and Galerie Faurschou in Copenhagen.  Among her various group exhibitions are the Brooklyn Museum of Art, Galerie Vieille du Temple, Paris, and the Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art in NY.  She is the recipient of a Pollock-Krasner artist grant and residencies at Yaddo. Her work is in various private and corporate collections. Reisman lives and works in Brooklyn.

Each painting begins with a drawing, or rather a photograph, as the original forms are culled from fashion magazines.   The artist’s work deals with consumption of the female form in it purest sense, de-constructing individual identities.  From an intricate drawing & tracing process evolve ultimately abstract & beautiful explorations of color.  The paintings are marked by an ephemeral though unmistakable depth. They are amalgams composed entirely of figures yet completely abstract.
