In the project room is the first-ever solo show of Miami-based artist Chris Byrd. The artist received his B.F.A. from Atlanta College of Art and an M.F.A. from American University, Washington, D.C. His work is in both corporate and private collections. Adventureland refers to a spirit of exploration and the venture of painting the contemporary, albeit abstract, landscape. As in the case of Reisman’s work, Byrd explores the similarities and differences between drawing & painting as the paintings reach their final forms.
As a native Floridian, Chris Byrd has been affected by the designed environments of theme parks, as well as the subcultures of surfing and skateboarding. His paintings are both sophisticated design & untamed graphics. By working both in a highly calculated and less planned way at the same time, the works become a comparison and contrast, exploring problems and presenting possible solutions in the finished work.
