In the project room is another first-ever solo exhibition by Ernesto Burgos. The artist has shown in group shows at the gallery Searching for Love & Fire & I Used to Believe.
Burgos received his B.F.A. from California College of Arts (CCA) in San Francisco in 2004 and is currently a graduate student at NYU pursuing his M.F.A. The artist has shown in Miami and San Francisco.
His project room solo show Kilowattzz is in one sense, a departure from the previous work dealing more directly with references to architecture and other ideas of physical space. While the present flat collage pieces still deal with space, Kilowattzz also deals with the energies that circulate these spaces.
Rather than confronting direct physical realities, the works in the solo show are imagined interpretations, using a patterning in the collage that develops ideas of repetition. When Burgos’ collage discusses energies, or systems of energy, these can be likened to the systems used in urban planning, systems of electricity and even socio-political constructs. Like those systems, these works highlight glitches or abruptions within their own discourse.
