Glexis Novoa Big Black Cloud Over Havana 2023 Graphite on travertine marble 12 x 24 inches

Glexis Novoa

Glexis Novoa compiles and decants information codified as symbols and canonic images representative of historical nuclei of power. By converting his work into an instrument of social and political criticism, Novoa aims to make the convergence of strategies used by different systems of totalitarian power universally evident. Novoa intends to synthesize in a unique form the diverse subliminal resources of manipulation by ideological, religious, political, or financial systems, which define the appearance of cities, creating a discourse as landscapes. Since the late eighties, Glexis Novoa has produced art in many different media, including painting, installation, performance and most recently graphite drawings on marble -a medium and material that would later become his focal investigation.

Glexis Novoa was born in Holguín, Cuba. He received a BA from The National School of Art, Havana. He lives in Miami, with studios in Havana and Miami. Since 1987 his work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. He has had solo exhibitions at Cheekwood Museum, Nashville, Tennessee; Lowe Museum, Coral Gables, Florida; Worcester Art Museum, Worcester, Massachusetts; Locust Projects, Miami, Florida; Miami Art Museum, Miami, Florida; The Snite Museum of Art, University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana; Castillo de la Real Fuerza, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Havana, Cuba, among many others.
