In the project room, LaToya Ruby Frazier will be presenting The Notion of Family.  In this ongoing collaborative body of work with her mother and grandmother, Frazier utilizes photography and video to produce work that intensely explores her family’s psychological lineage through the 1930s, 1960s and 1980s.  Her work is autobiographical and blurs the line between self-portraiture and social documentary.  The family is seen from every angle when her mother functions as artist and photographer capturing Frazier as the subject.  The Notion of Family defines the lines between private and public space, emotion, reality, memory, and human complexity.

LaToya Ruby Frazier was born in Pittsburgh, PA in 1982 and received her BFA in Photography and Graphic Design in 2004 at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.  She received her MFA in Art Photography from the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University in 2007.  Her works have been exhibited nationally and internationally, including The New Museum, New York; the Brinx Museum; and National Academy Museum in New York City, among many others.
