Whispering Pines 4

Shana Moulton
April 10 - May 1, 2010

David Castillo Annex is pleased to present Whispering Pines 4 by Shana Moulton, one in several of an ongoing body of works by the artist, begun in 2002.  In these Whispering Pines video and performance works, Moulton’s alter-ego Cynthia is the unhappy protagonist.  Certain things such as New Age practices and kitsch bring the hypochondriac comfort.  Fearing almost everything and exposing anxieties of popular culture in the West, Cynthia finds solace in among other things, consumerism.

New York-based Moulton studied at UC Berkeley, CA and Carnegie Mellon, Pittsburgh, PA.  She has exhibited widely, most recently with solo exhibitions at the Migros Museum in Zurich, Switzerland and Art in General, New York.  She was also included in Performa 09.  Her work has appeared in ArtforumFlash ArtArt in AmericaNew York Times, among many others.
